Old Canning Plant behind school at Belgreen, Franklin County,
Alabama.
Sorry folks, this is the best I could do with the photo at hand.
| I can remember going to the canning plant when I was a small girl with my
parents to have peas and beans shelled. It was a busy place. I was
fascinated by the actions going on here. People were sealing food in tin cans while
others were preparing food to be preserved. There were big shellers where people
would place a bushel of peas or beans and the machine would whir with a loud noisy sound.
Then the shelled peas or beans would roll out the bottom.
It was a place for people to meet and talk about the growing season and how productive
it was, or to find out the latest family news and gossip.
If you have a story that you would like to share about the canning plant, please let me
know and I will be glad to place it
here. |
