Mr. Malone Dies at Community Hospital


Mr. Cirgus Earnie Virgle Malone, born in Colbert County, Alabama, February 23rd, 1891, died April 29th, 1954, at 2:15 p.m. at the Community hospital in Corinth. Mr. Malone was 63 years, 2 months and 6 days of age. He had lived a full useful Christian life, was a good companion, father and neighbor and his passing has cast a shadow of sorrow over his entire neighborhood. He had been a tiller of the soil for years and was a successful farmer.

At the age of 46 he became a member of the Church of Christ, serving as a deacon and treasurer of the church until his health failed and he resigned as church treasurer January, 1954.

February 22nd, 1910, he was married to Miss Dora Lucille James, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. James and to this union fourteen children were born, twelve of whom survive: six sons, Virgil Malone of Cold Water, Elree Malone of Corinth, Lumis Malone of Memphis,   A/2c Reece Malone, Keesler Field, Biloxi, Mississippi, Preston of Dennis, Mississippi and A/3c Wayne Malone, Alexandria, Louisiana; six daughters, Mrs. Clara Searcy of Bay Springs, Mississippi, Mrs. Geraldine Sartain, Corinth, Mrs. Lorene Haynie, Corinth, Mrs. Dexter Mae Posey, Mrs. Wynona Waddle and Miss Rachel Malone of Dennis. There are nine grandchildren, Louise Clingan, Nashville, Tennessee, Wyvil, Tommy and Libby Sartain of Corinth, Wanda, Jimmie and Judy Malone, Mike Haynie, Debora Malone; four brothers, Earlie Malone of Belmont, Jessie Malone, Tishomingo, Fred Malone, Cherokee, Alabama, Dalton Malone, Startford, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Bill Cox, Red Bay and a host of other relatives.

Funeral service for Mr. Malone was held Friday afternoon, April 30, 1954, at 2:00 o’clock at the Liberty Church of Christ with Bro. Lindsey Allen, minister of the Foot Street Church of Christ of Corinth and Bro. Tommy Rosenblum of Belmont Church of Christ officiating in the presence of a large circle of relatives and friends.

Mr. Alvie Puckett of Maude, Alabama directed the song service.

Pallbearers were: Messers Clint Martin, Fred Lindsey, Ray Suggs, Authur Deaton, Mack Sartain and Freeman Carr.

Floral offerings were banked in the church and blanketed his final resting place.

Burial was in Lindsey Cemetery.

Deaton Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
