| Lorene Ezzell Hester, widow of the
late Foy B. Hester, died peacefully in Dallas, Texas, Saturday afternoon, February 3,
1996, after a brief illness. Mrs. Hester had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and
Parkinson's diseases. Her health had suddenly declined over the past two years. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Nancy (Charlie) Hoke of Allen, Texas, and Mr. Foy Hester Jr. of Garden City, New York; three grandchildren, Mr. Gary Hoke of Allen, Texas, Mrs. David Hoke of Abilene, Texas and Master Jonathan Hester of Garden Center, New York; three sisters, Mrs. A. N. McKinney (Chess) of Tuscumbia, Mrs. W. L. Strickland (Lois) of Huntsville, and Mrs. J. O. Rikard (Terrell) of Madison; and 21 nieces, nephews and grand-neices/nephews, including Mrs. Robert M. Redding (Bettye) of Louisville, Kentucky. Mrs. Lorene Hester was born in Belgreen on October 19, 1909, daughter of Robert Terrell Ezzell and Ruth Victoria Hester Ezzell. Mrs. Lorene Hester and the late Mr. Foy B. Hester were married on June 29, 1938, in Honolulu, Hawaii, where Mr. Hester served in the U. S. Navy. After World War II, they lived in Muscle Shoals and Tuscumbia, Alabama. Mrs. Hester was known to care deeply for family. The family attended the Highland Park Church of Christ in Muscle Shoals and then the Fourth Street Church of Christ in Tuscumbia. She was a career schoolteacher. She began teaching at Pleasant Site in 1931. She also taught at White Oak before teaching at Belgreen in 1934. She later taught for 18 years at Mars Hill Bible School in Florence and then at Pride in Colbert County where she retired. In her later years, she enjoyed quilting at the Senior Citizens Center in Littleville. The funeral will be held at Tuscumbia Church of Christ, formerly Fourth Street, on Wednesday, February 7, 1996. Mr. Bob Plunket will conduct the services. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Gary Hoke, Mr. David Hoke, Mr. Chess Neal McKinney, Mr. Michael Redding, Mr. Jim Bob Rikard and Mr. Bill Strickland. Burial will be in the Greenhill-Ezzell Cemetery near Belgreen. Memorial gifts may be sent to Mars Hill Bible School in Florence or to David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, where a scholarship fund has been established in the names of the late Foy B. and Lorene Hester. |
