Amos Monroe Malone
Mr. Amos Monroe Malone passed away at the Booneville hospital
Thursday morning, October 22, 1942. "Grandpa' had been in failing health for some
time, but his condition became serious only a short time before his death.
He was born October 8, 1868, and he was 75 years and 14 days old. Early in life he joined
the Baptist Church at Rock Creek, Alabama. He was married to Mary Modena Ramsey who passed
on about thirteen years ago. To this union were born eight children, five boys and three
girls, one girl having died as an infant and another daughter died not long after her
marriage to O. G. Winchester.
Deceased is survived by the following children: J. E. Malone of Belmont, Rout 1; C. E.
Malone, Dennis, Rout 1; Fred Malone, Cherokee, Alabama; Jessie A. Malone, Tishomingo; D.
E. Malone, Conien, Texas; and Mrs. Bill Cox of Red Bay, Alabama. Three brothers, one
sister; thirty-four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren besides other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services were held at the Winchester Cemetery, Pleasant Site, Alabama, Friday
afternoon at 3:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. W. C. Hamilton, in the presence of a large
circle of relatives and friends. The remains were laid to rest beneath a blanket of
beautiful flowers.
Pallbearers were Brandon and John Winchester, Virgil, Elree, Lumis and Reece Malone.
FROM OUT-OF-TOWN
Those from out-of-town attending the funeral of Mr. Amos Malone were Mr. and Mrs. Brandon
Winchester and daughter, Miss Ganell Winchester and Miss Gerry Taylor, of Talladega,
Alabama; Corporal John G. Winchester, Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia; Pvt. Burce E.
Malone, Camp Gruber, Oklahoma, Battery "B" 137 F. A. United States Navy; Mr.
Lester Hodge, Iuka, Mississippi, Mrs. Annie Jerdan and Mrs. Laura Thorn, of Vina, Alabama.
Pvt. Bruce Elree Malone left Saturday for his camp in Oklahoma after spending his furlough
at home. Elree intended to leave the 21st, but secured an extension of time when his
grandfather was taken ill. Mr. Malone lived only a short time after being carried to the
hospital.
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to express our gratitude for the many acts of kindness and consoling words of
sympathy extended us during the illness and death of Grandpa Malone. Also for the
beautiful floral offerings which bore mute evidence of love and respect for the departed.
