This photo was taken in February, 1910. My maternal grandmother, Carrie Lee Ferguson,
went to 'Normal School' (teacher's college) in Florence, Alabama, now the University of
Northern Alabama. Carrie was born 18 Feb 1888, in Lawrence County, Alabama.
Her parents were Samuel Woodson Ferguson and Virginia Isabell Little. Virginia was a
great-great-granddaughter of Major William Russell. Carrie married Thomas Russell Berry in
1911, and lost her job! (You couldn't be a married woman in those days and also be a
teacher!)" |
